Family Weirdo

When I was 18, I went to the family Christmas Party at my Aunt's house.
Immediately upon entering the house, my cousin said, "You look weird.". I'm sure he meant it as an insult as he's a brat, however, I truthfully replied, "I am weird."

Actually, I did look weird.
I had a red mohawk with black and red coon-tailed bangs, and the sides of my head were blonde with black zebra stripes. I had a few tattoos, but my mouth was pretty much made of metal. Two monroes, two lower lip piercings, and two tongue piercings. And I'm sure I was dressed like some sort of scrub punk.

Anyway, my Aunt pretty much told me that I could have 2 more years to look strange and then I should start being normal.

I don't think I'll be able to manage that one.
I mean, I can pull off looking really quite normal... but let's do a run-through of past looks, shall we?

Fifteen - this was the last time I had long hair.

Sixteen - aw, look how normal!

Seventeen summer - cat orange hair, still pretty normal.

Seventeen winter - purple hair, contacts, getting weird.

Seventeen winter - pink-orange hair, it looks like a bob, but the whole back was about 2 inches all over and I had my tongue pierced. Stranger.

Seventeen spring - back to brown, but in that scene phase everyone seemed to have.

Seventeen spring - ah, the mohawk. My hair still has yet to fully recover from that.

Eighteen summer - the chelsea. I was the only girl at Culver with hair above my shoulders.

Eighteen fall - my second mohawk, purple. Angelbites. Definitely a bit odd.

Eighteen winter - yes. this was weird.

Eighteen winter - but this was rad.

Eighteen spring - a little less odd.

Nineteen summer - and then I had a wig and no piercings and looked really quite normal.

Nineteen fall - and then I didn't. Also, I didn't have eyebrows either.

Nineteen fall - at all.

Nineteen winter - but then my hair was blonde and I looked kind of normal again.

Nineteen spring - despite the bed head (which wasn't actually bed-head, it was styled), I look rather normalish here.

Nineteen summer - and then my hair was back to... it's normal colour, although shaved at the back and sides. More tattoos. Same nose piercing.

Twenty summer - blunt bangs, I looked cute.

Twenty fall - longer hair, looking pretty normal for the scene.

Twenty halloween - still rocking a growing out undercut.

Twenty winter - blunt bangs, ponytail, undercut, nosering.

Twenty winter - I think I look like Emma Watson, so I copied her pixie cut. The most normal I looked in years.

Twenty winter - I like this picture and hairstyle.

Twenty spring - pixie, nose piercing, stretching my ears out. I think this look was a good balance.

Twenty-one fall - my hair grew out all summer, and then my roommate cut it for me. Bleached eyebrows, tattoos, and check out those nearly 5/8 plugs in my ears.

Twenty-one fall - became obsessed with blink-182 for the first time since I was 9 and pierced my lip like Tom's way back when.

Twenty-one fall - blonde hair and proper 5/8 inch octopus plugs.

Twenty-one fall - mint green and blonde hair, getting longer.

Twenty-one fall - it doesn't look much different, but it's a new haircut, inspired by Tank Girl.

Twenty-one fall - briiight mint green and my mullet has become long enough for a ponytail.

Twenty-one winter - back to white blonde and the front was long enough for a pompadour!

Twenty-one winter - loving Yo-Landi Vi$$er has lead me to cut blunt bangs and bleach my eyebrows.

Same

Same

Twenty-one winter - I love Lisbeth Salander.

Twenty-one winter - and then I remembered I have extensions.

Twenty-one winter - but I don't always wear them. Or shirts. But I did get my tongue and lip pierced.

Twenty-one winter - vertically. Through my philtrum. Which is called a Jestrum. Or, a vertical philtrum piercing. It took a whole week for the swelling to go down.

Twenty-one winter - my hair is strange and brown and I play in the mud.

Twenty-one winter - I've decided to start colouring my eyebrows fun colours. Like pink.

Twenty-one winter - And turquoise. Tomorrow will be blue.

I need to cut my hair. Probably today.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably always going to be the family weirdo, but I'm pretty okay with it because I really like how I look, and other people seem to as well. Which is nice, but not required.

Anyway, this has been a picture post.

Fish-Hooked

Again.

Why did everything hurt so much more when I was 18?
Does a person's pain tolerance grow with age? It was high then. Now it's just ridiculous.
Is this a neurological problem?

My mouth is an homage.

Piercings

When I was growing up, my parents made me wait until I was 7 to get my ears pierced.
I had to wait until I was 14 to get the upper part of my ear pierced.
It wasn't until I was 15 that they'd let me get my navel pierced.

And that was the last piercing they actually "let" me get.

When I was 14, I gave myself my very own surface piercings over my hips... since I did it myself, that didn't work out all so well and I took them out soon after. My mum saw the scars a little while later and I told her they were mosquito bites or something.

When I was 16, I got my second holes done in my ears over in Windsor. I asked. My parent said no (I don't even know why. It's such a basic piercing.) and then I did it anyway. When I was 17, I got my 3rd holes done without even asking.

I didn't bother asking when I was 17 and got my tongue pierced with my friend just after we won marching band finals. They'd specifically told me at some point that I definitely couldn't get my tongue pierced until I was no longer living with them.

When I was 16, I saved up for months to have a bunch of my own money for our summer trip to the UK. I figured I'd be left on my own at some point in Edinburgh, and planned on it. Checking out the local piercing parlours on the net and seeing which I could get to pierce my nipples. Unfortunately, all of my money and passport got stolen while out shopping the very morning I'd planned to visit the parlour! Worst luck ever and I was ridiculously pissed.

When I was 17, my mother took me to get my first tattoo. A week later, I got my tongue pierced. And exactly a week after that, my friends and I went to go get her tongue pierced, and ended up both getting our nipples pierced as well. Finally.

On the first of January, 2008, I got my inverse navel pierced as my friend got her regular one done.

In the summer, just after I'd turned 18, I got my tongue pierced twice on each side, which is called "venoms", if you didn't know.

In October, I got my upper lip pierced twice, which is "angel bites". That's the last piercing I got while still living with my parent(s)... they didn't even live together then.

In December, I got my lower lip pierced twice on one side, a "spider bite".

And then I moved to Toronto and in March, got my septum pierced, which is the one that sometimes hides up my nose.

In the summer, I got my right nipple re-pierced as I'd taken my old piercings out nearly a year previously for rugby. I'd actually meant to get my inverse navel re-done, but they refused to do it as it's a spot that is prone to rejection. Clearly I'll have to get around to getting it redone elsewhere.

In August of 2009, I got a surface piercing over my collarbone, which I loved and was awesome. It was my third surface piercing, and the only one I'd had professionally done.

In early November, I got snakebites, which is two lip piercings, one on either side of my mouth. I'd rather like to get them re-done, as obviously I no-longer have them.

And I've not gotten any new piercings since then... that's an entire year.

If you've been paying attention, that's a total of 25 piercings. I currently only have 3. And there's only 4 that my parents ever actually let me get.

I don't even know why they were always so anal about it. "Oh, you have to be sure." No you don't. That's such ridiculous bullshit. Piercings are so temporary. If they weren't, I'd be full of holes. Obviously. But am I? No. You take them out. They heal over. No harm done.

"Oh, what will people think?" Do I honestly seem like the type of person who cares what people think? I've got my fucking fingers tattooed. Why on earth would I care?

I'm sure it had more to do with "What kind of parents will our friends think we are if our daughter is full of metal?" Well, I'm (not) sorry to break it to anyone, but I really don't care what anyone thinks. If I ever convince myself that vomiting isn't *THAT* bad and manage to become a parent, I'll be so much more lenient about piercings. Like really.

So Mum. I know you read my blog. Tell me, what's the real reason I wasn't allowed piercings growing up?

I Got Mine

On Friday, I went grocery shopping and decided to stop in and see how much a septum piercing would cost. It was only the price of the jewelry. Which was epic cheap for a piercing, so I went ahead and scheduled myself an appointment to get it done at or after 3pm, then went and bought myself some food.

I watched Bones on my computer for a while and then headed down to the parlour around the corner. I had forgotten my ID though, so I went back and quickly got it. I filled out paperwork and then was lead far far away down some twisty hallways with the piercer and his cute asian assistant.

It took half an hour of talking before I let him line up where the piercing would be with the needle and receiving tube. As soon as that was lined up, I was like, just pierce it! So he did. My eyes watered a lot, but it didn't really hurt. It just felt like pressure.

Putting the ring in didn't work so well, so he put a taper through, and after a bit of fiddling, the ring was in and fit and closed. I checked it out in the mirror and it was a little crooked, which I pointed out. He agreed and decided to repierce it using the same beginning point, but a new ending point in order to twist it to fit my slightly devious septum.

It looks pretty great now, still just a little crooked, but it will straighten out as it heals and will look better when I get a curved barbell into it a little later. I totally adore it and I'm super glad I manned up and got it done since I've been wanting it for a while.

I can't wait to get my nostril pierced...

The Devistating Backstroke

So yesterday I hung out with Brendan which was honestly awful. He's far more annoying than I remember him being. So I cut that visit rather short. I now have monstro hickey right over a birthmark that apparently looks like a hickey anyway. I think it looks like a swastika. Whatever. Now when anyone actually asks if its a hickey, I'll have to say yes. Boo.

Crap time with shitty camp friends was easily made up when I called my bff Carol and asked if she could and wanted to come to Toronto with me for newyears. She said yes and so did her mom. Yay! Roadtrip! I went and picked her up and we hightailed it over to inkslingers to get my lip pierced. John actually asked if I burnt myself with a curling iron. Hahaha.

Lip piercings turned out sweeeet. I can't wait to get smaller rings put in. Its going to look epic. Alex says its too much, but I don't think so. Anyway, this lady got a tattoo of a rainbow kokopeli or however its spelt because she is an author. "Oh, cool. What do you write?" "Gay erotica fiction." "Oh. ...my parents are gay..."

Haha! We promptly went out to the front room silently laughing. Jesus on a cracker. But when we're there, we really do whatever we want since we're totally VIP customers.

I was freaking out before I got my shit pierced because Carol kept saying it was going to hurt A LOT. John sprayed my lip with some novacaine that he smuggled in from tiajuanna (sp?). It mostly made all of the inside of my mouth numb and it felt super weird. Carol held my hand the whole time, which was great because the last time anyone held my hand for a piercing or whatever I was 15 and it was my navel that was getting the needle. Thanks Carol!!

We headed over to 7-11 to get a slurpee and decided that John lieks meeee. Which I don't mind at all. He's totally adorable anyway. I got a blue raspberry and vanilla cream flavoured slurpee. It was aces hight. Carol got coffee. We also bought this crazy stretchy pink spiney penis with eyes that has this light up thing in it. I guess it was supposed to be a caterpillar.

We didn't quite want to go home so we went up to movie 16 at the mutant mall. That place is sooo ghetto creepy. We decided to see Saw V. It was pretty good. Totally sick and twisted of course.

Anyway, I'm going over to hers later today to pick her up and go park by a dumpster so that we can clean out my car. Aces! I fucking love that girl.

I've Got Soul, But I'm Not A Soldier

I am amazing.

So, the last few days have been super boring. The only really interesting thing that has happened is that I ripped the left side of my tongue, so that piercing hurts like fuck when I eat or move it. Thankfully, I only ever play with the right one anyway.
